How Journals Can Twist and Manipulate Vaccine Research

Posted by: Dr. Mercola
December 17 2009

Children and the elderly are the two age groups that appear to have the most complications following an influenza infection.

Influenza has a viral origin and often results in an acute respiratory illness affecting the lower or upper parts respiratory tract, or both. Viruses are mainly of two subtypes (A or B) and spread periodically during the autumn-winter months. Many other viruses however, can also cause illness of the respiratory tract.

Public health efforts to contain the virus rely mainly on widespread vaccination. Recent policy from several internationally-recognized institutions recommends immunization of healthy children from the age of six months and up.

In their 2008 update of a review done in 2006, Cochrane authors found a marked difference between vaccine “efficacy” versus their effectiveness.

Although these two terms are oftentimes used interchangeably in daily conversation, when used in a medical context they confer two different meanings.

“Efficacy” means the extent to which a specific intervention produces a therapeutic effect, or a beneficial result under ideal conditions. The protective efficacy of a vaccine is determined on what is called “antibody titer”.

A simplified explanation is that the antibody titer is a measurement of the amount of antibodies produced in your body that recognize a particular antigen (virus).

“Effectiveness,” on the other hand, shows the intervention’s capacity for producing the intended or expected result. In the case of a flu vaccine, the intended result would be considered its capacity to prevent influenza illness.

In children over the age of 2, nasal spray vaccines made from weakened live viruses had an:

* Efficacy of 82 percent compared with placebo or no intervention
* Effectiveness of 33 percent

In children over the age of 2, inactivated (injectable) vaccines had an:

* Efficacy of 59 percent compared to live vaccines
* Effectiveness of 36 percent

In children under 2, the efficacy of inactivated vaccine was similar to placebo.

The fact is that there is plenty of scientific evidence showing that flu vaccines simply do not work, and have no real impact on reduction of disease, rates of hospitalization, or rates of absenteeism from work.

Unfortunately, the germ theory and a commitment to using vaccines to address illness is deeply ingrained in the conventional medical community and few are willing to face the reality that vaccinations may not be a suitable answer – let alone the answer.

Flu Shots’ Poor Rates of Effectiveness

Part of the confusion that makes some people believe in the effectiveness of flu vaccines is the misunderstanding of “efficacy” as opposed to “effectiveness.”

You might think they do, but these terms do NOT describe the same thing.

And, as the Cochrane authors noted, there’s a marked difference between vaccine “efficacy” versus their effectiveness.

*

Efficacy of 82 percent compared with placebo or no intervention. This means that 82 percent of children over the age of two produced sufficient amounts of antibodies against a virus, compared to a those who received a placebo or nothing at all. Considering the fact that if you inject no virus whatsoever, your body has nothing to produce antibodies against, it’s still worth noting that injecting a virus only produces sufficient amounts of antibodies in 8 out of 10 children – not all.
*

Effectiveness of only 33 percent. I.e. it only prevented influenza illness in about 3 out of 10 children

In children over the age of 2, inactivated (injectable) vaccines had an:

*

Efficacy of 59 percent compared to live vaccines
*

Effectiveness of 36 percent

In children under 2, the efficacy of inactivated vaccine was similar to placebo.

This is truly incredible, since it means that whether you inject a virus or nothing at all into a child under the age of two, you will NOT see antibodies being produced! And if the efficacy is zero, it stands to reason the effectiveness is null and void as well.

So under two, you have NO efficacy (antibody production), and NO effectiveness (illness prevention), but PLENTY of potential dangers…

It really amazes me how effective drug companies’ marketing strategies have been at convincing health care professionals and the public to change the laws. They can now sell their unproven and unsafe products in pharmacies, airports, college campuses, grocery stores and countless other outlets, despite the fact that:

*

Three years ago, a study in the British Medical Journal concluded that the effectiveness of annual flu shots has been greatly exaggerated, and that in reality they have little or no effect on influenza campaign objectives, including reducing the number of hospital stays, time off work, and death from influenza and its complications.
*

Giving young children flu shots appeared to have no impact on flu-related doctor visits or hospitalizations during two recent flu seasons, according to a study published in the Archives of Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine last year. The researchers concluded that "significant influenza vaccine effectiveness could not be demonstrated for any season, age, or setting" examined.
*

The precursor to the 2008 study linked above, a large-scale, systematic review of 51 studies published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews in 2006, found no evidence that the flu vaccine is any more effective than a placebo in children. The studies involved 260,000 children, age 6 to 23 months.
*

No studies have conclusively proven that flu shots prevent flu-related deaths among the elderly.
*

A study published in the Lancet found that influenza vaccination was NOT associated with a reduced risk of pneumonia in older people. Why is this important? Because 35,000 of the 36,000 “flu” deaths the government claims happen each year are actually caused by diseases like pneumonia, and NOT the flu.
*

That Lancet study supports a similar study done in 2006, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, which concluded that vaccination against pneumonia does not reduce your risk of contracting the disease.
*

Research published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine also confirms that there has been no decrease in deaths from influenza and pneumonia, despite the fact that vaccination coverage among the elderly has increased from 15 percent in 1980 to 65 percent now.
*

Another study from 2005, published in the Archives of Internal Medicine also could not find support for the use of flu vaccine to prevent deaths in the elderly. The report highlights that although immunization rates in people over 65 have increased dramatically in the past 20 years, there has not been a consequent decline in flu-related deaths.
*

In 2007, researchers with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the National Institutes of Health published this conclusion in the Lancet Infectious Diseases: “We conclude that frailty selection bias and use of non-specific endpoints such as all-cause mortality have led cohort studies to greatly exaggerate vaccine benefits.”

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to question the current paradigm.

What Works to Guard Against the Flu?

What you MUST understand is that people are dying from the flu because they are already sick and have compromised immune systems.

The ultimate treatment for the flu is proactive prevention. Eat the right foods, avoid the junk, get plenty of rest and stay emotionally balanced, and you and the flu will likely never meet.

Getting appropriate amounts of sunshine, or UV exposure through a safe tanning bed (or taking a vitamin D supplement when you can’t get healthy amounts of UVB exposure) is one of my KEY preventive strategies against the cold and flu, as it has an extraordinary strengthening effect on your immune system.

For more information on this amazing flu-preventing vitamin, as well as where to have your vitamin D levels checked and how to cure a cold or flu with mega-doses of vitamin D, please read Avoid Flu Shots With the One Vitamin That Will Stop Flu in Its Tracks.

Other important lifestyle strategies for flu prevention include:

*

Eat right for your nutritional type, including avoiding sugar
*

Get plenty of vitamin D
*

Eliminate sugar from your diet
*

Consume a high-quality krill oil daily
*

Exercise
*

Get adequate sleep
*

Address emotional stress
*

Wash your hands regularly (but not excessively)

BEWARE of Taking Tylenol with the Flu Vaccine!

That said, if you or your child DO end up getting a flu shot, please beware of emerging research that warns about using analgesics in conjunction with vaccines.

According to a two Czechoslovakian studies, published in the journal Lancet on October 17, giving your child an analgesic to prevent fever when getting a vaccine can lead to increased risk of secondary infections.

Their studies showed that after vaccination, the immune response was lower among babies who were given acetaminophen (such as Tylenol), right after they received the shot.

The vaccines used in the study were for pneumococcal disease, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, polio and rotavirus. No flu vaccines were included. However, it’s likely the effect would still be the same.

MSN.com quotes infectious disease expert Dr. Marc Siegel as saying that:

"…the conclusion that Tylenol not only suppresses fever, but also decreases immune response is plausible. After all, what is an immune response? It's an inflammatory response."

The researchers also found that although fewer infants developed a fever after getting acetaminophen, they also developed significantly fewer antibodies against the disease they were vaccinated against. They believe the acetaminophen’s anti-inflammatory activity might interfere with your body’s immune system antibody response, which could explain why the vaccine was rendered less effective.

However, what is not mentioned by either MSN, or foodconsumer.org, who also ran an article on these findings, is that a lowered immune response also means you're more susceptible to develop other infections. And, as we now know, it is secondary infections such as bacterial staph infections that turn out to be deadly -- not the flu virus in and of itself.

Copper Coil can cure!

Source: http://www.copperhealth.com/lakhovsky_coil.htm

Here is the full story of my experience with developing this amazing device including the original research.
In 1984 I ordered a book, from an obscure publication, entitled "The Secret of Life" by Georges Lakhovsky. The content described experiments used to determine the origin of the life force. I was especially interested in the fact that back in the 1920's and 1930's machines were being developed which could heal with electrical oscillating waves and the manipulation of their frequencies. It was fascinating how Lakhovsky experimented on plants to determine what contributed to the development of disease in order to prove his theories.
He wanted to prove his theory that life giving radiation came from outside someone as opposed to the radiation coming from within. He developed an experiment using five plants and injected them with Cancer cells. He then waited until a cancerous knob grew on the sides of each plant. He then took one of the plants and put a copper wire around it with a dielectric stuck into the soil with the copper secured through the dielectric. He theorized that copper wire worked as a small oscillator. Within two weeks the plants without the copper wire had died. But, the plant with the copper wire around it was still OK. When he touched the Cancerous knob it fell off the plant. After a month the plant was totally healthy.
Since the copper wire had worked so well with a plant, he decided to try it on animals. He put it on horses that couldn't conceive and they became fertile. He put it on dogs with skin infections and they cleared up. He found that when he put the copper on an animal that it's eyes got brighter and the fur or hair became softer and shiner. They also became frisker and as he put it "full of life". The one thing he didn't list in his book was exactly how he made his belts, bracelets and collars.
I decided I would study his book and try and come up with a working oscillating circuit that would give me the same success that he had. I went to the library and found out what a diaelectric was and started experimenting with different ones. Since it had done so much for his animals, I tried using my version of the coil on mine.

The Single Most Crucial Nutrient to Energize Every Cell in Your Body

by: Dr. Mercola / December 12 2009

Supplements of coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) may protect or retard the development of fatty liver related to obesity, suggest findings from an animal study.
Mice fed a high fat and fructose diet and supplemented with CoQ10 had decreased levels of inflammatory and metabolic stress markers in their livers than mice fed just the high-fat diet, according to findings published in Biochemical Pharmacology.

CoQ10 has properties similar to vitamins, but since it is naturally synthesized in the body it is not classed as such. With chemical structure 2,3-dimethoxy-5-methyl-6-decaprenyl-1,4-benzoquinone, it is also known as ubiquinone because of its 'ubiquitous' distribution throughout the human body.

There is an ever-growing body of scientific data that shows substantial health benefits of CoQ10 supplementation for people suffering from angina, heart attack and hypertension. Other studies have reported CoQ10 may play a role in the prevention of, or benefit people already suffering from, neurodegenerative diseases.

The nutrient is also recommended to people on statins to off-set the CoQ-depleting effects of the medication.

Sources:

Biochemical Pharmacology December 1, 2009;78(11):1391-400

Dr. Mercola's Comments:

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is important for your body’s daily functions that it is also known as “ubiquinone” because it's 'ubiquitous' in the human body -- CoQ10 is actually used by every cell in your body.

For instance, CoQ10 is required for your cells to produce energy, and is an integral part of helping cells take fat and other substances and convert them into usable energy.

CoQ10 can also help protect your body from free radical damage. Free radicals are oxygen atoms deficient in electrons that become highly reactive. This in turn causes potential damage to your tissues and DNA.

It is because of its powerful antioxidant protection that CoQ10 is often recommended for a wide variety of heart-related conditions, such as heart attack, high blood pressure and congestive heart failure, which require extra protection from free radical damage.

CoQ10 has actually been the subject of thousands of research studies, and in addition to the new finding above that CoQ10 may help reduce the risk of fatty liver in people with obesity, CoQ10 may also:

Help you produce more energy for your cells

Boost your heart health

Act as an antioxidant to protect you from free radicals

Help you reduce the signs of normal aging

Help you maintain blood pressure levels within the normal range

Provide a boost to your immune system

Support your nervous system

What You Need to Know About CoQ10 as You Get Older

Your body requires the reduced form of CoQ10 (ubiquinol) to help you limit free radical production.

If you’re under 25 years old your body is capable of converting CoQ10 from the oxidized to the reduced form. However, if you're older, your body becomes more and more challenged to convert the oxidized CoQ10 to ubiquinol.

It becomes more and more difficult for you to produce the ubiquinol you need due to:

Increased metabolic demand

Oxidative stress

Insufficient dietary Co Q10 intake

Deficiency of factors required for biosynthesis and ubiquinol conversion

Potential effects from illness and disease

Age-related changes in your genes

And any combination of these factors

Further, as you get older your body levels of CoQ10 continue to diminish, making it even more difficult to maintain adequate levels.

So, if you’re over 40, I would highly recommend taking a reduced form of coenzyme Q10 called ubiquinol, because it’s far more effectively absorbed by your body.

This is one of the few supplements I consider highly beneficial for nearly all adults.

CoQ10 is Essential if You Take Statin Drugs

Anytime I write about CoQ10 I absolutely have to share this fact with you, because so many people are taking statin drugs and are completely unaware of this important information.

Statin drugs used to lower cholesterol typically work by reducing an enzyme in your liver, which not only reduces the production of cholesterol, but it also reduces the production of coenzyme Q10. When you lower the production of CoQ10, you increase your risk of a variety of different health problems.

Premature aging is one primary side effect of having too little CoQ10 because this essential vitamin recycles other antioxidants, such as vitamin C and E.

CoQ10 deficiency also accelerates DNA damage, and because CoQ10 is beneficial to heart health and muscle function this depletion leads to fatigue, muscle weakness, soreness and eventually heart failure. Therefore, it is absolutely vital to supplement with CoQ10 if you’re taking a statin drug.

In my view it is medical malpractice to prescribe a statin drug without recommending one take CoQ10, or better yet ubiquinol.

Unfortunately, many doctors fail to inform their patients of this fact.

What to Do if You’re Struggling With Obesity

As I said, a reduced form of coenzyme Q10 called ubiquinol is one of the few supplements I consider highly beneficial for nearly all adults.

But simply taking this supplement alone will not be enough to help you achieve a healthy body weight.

If you need to lose weight, it will take a multi-faceted approach and I highly recommend you start by reducing, with the plan of eliminating, sugars and most grains from your diet. Eating foods that are suitable for your nutritional type is also an important aspect of shedding excess pounds, as you will then give your body the fuel it needs to run optimally.

Regular exercise and addressing any emotional blocks are also very important, and I suggest you work with a knowledgeable natural health care practitioner who can give you the support you need during your weight-loss process.

Spice Up your Immune System!

"Are You Ready to Add More Spice to Your Life -- and Your Health*?"

Why I Traveled 15,000 Miles to Uncover More about this Ayurvedic Super Spice…

You may already know I place a strong emphasis on eating as much unprocessed, organically grown food as possible for optimal health.
Turmeric

One frequently overlooked way to enhance and optimize health with organically grown food is the use of herbs and spices – unprocessed and organic, of course.

One amazing benefit of these herbs is that they’re very low in calories, while being dense in vitamins and minerals.

In the same vein, they’re thermogenic, meaning they naturally boost your metabolism to help you burn calories.* You feel satisfied more easily, so you eat less.* Studies show that consuming certain herbs and spices before each meal can potentially reduce your caloric intake.*

Due to their nutrient-dense status, they promote your overall wellbeing with antioxidants more potent than many fruits and veggies.*

Herbs and spices promote health and wellbeing in your entire body, not just in a particular area.*

This "whole person" approach is why I believe these spices and herbs can benefit you so greatly.

But I consider one particular spice the “granddaddy” of them all, because its benefits are so amazing and far-reaching.
Don't Waste Your Time and Health with
Synthetically Processed Herbs and Spices

Just as it's important to select and consume wholesome, unprocessed organic foods, you should do the same with herbs and spices.

Avoid breezing down the spice aisle of your local grocery store to pick up any old herb or spice.

It is important to be very selective.

If the herb or spice you're looking for is processed or not organically grown, you risk missing out on their most potent active ingredients, which provide you with optimal benefits.

If the herb or spice isn't cultivated, harvested, produced, and packaged using certified organic processes, you could be robbed of its healthful active ingredients.

In fact, I recommend you totally avoid herbs and spices that aren't 100% certified organic. Why waste your time -- and risk potential health consequences from artificial ingredients and questionable chemical processes?

India is the home of Ayurveda, recognized as an authoritative source of knowledge and truth in natural health promotion -- with herbs and spices lying at the very heart of Ayurvedic practice. So it would make perfect sense to consider using herbs that were grown in India if you are considering Ayurvedic herbs
How this Ancient Spice Originated Thousands of Years Ago

That's one of the reasons I traveled over 15,000 miles to India last year -- to find a high quality source of these herbs. During my trip to India, I witnessed firsthand how the Ayurvedic holistic approach and organic processes work in unison.
Ancient Indian Turmeric

And of the many herbs and spices I studied, the one in particular that caught my immediate attention was turmeric. It provides you with these whole-person benefits:

* Supports your healthy joint function*
* Promotes your radiant skin*
* Helps improve your digestion*

And so much more...

There's some debate about the timing of turmeric's first use as a healthy spice.

But one thing is certain. Thousands of years ago, people in India and China used the spice. In fact, some stories suggest usage dates back 10,000 years in India when they say Lord Rama walked the earth.

And the ancient Polynesians carried turmeric with them on their incredible voyage across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. Today, Hawaiians still use this spice -- known to them as Olena.

While in China, Marco Polo in 1280 AD recorded information on turmeric in his diary:

"There is also a vegetable which has all the properties of true saffron, as well the smell and the color, and yet it is not really saffron."

So, turmeric has been used as a substitute for saffron (an old world spice) in Europe for over 700 years.

One of the main healthful ingredients in turmeric is curcumin (a curcuminoid), which as I said, gives turmeric its yellow color.

Western scientists first isolated the curcumin molecule in 1815, obtained its crystalline form in 1870, and determined its overall structure in 1910.

Curcumin can potentially benefit you by:

Promoting your immune system against stress*

* Promoting your immune system*
* Helping you maintain your healthy digestive system*
* Supporting your healthy bones, joints, and overall skeletal system*
* Helping you maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range*
* Promoting your healthy blood and liver functions*

How Turmeric and Curcumin Provide Antioxidant Nutrients*

You probably know that antioxidants are important for your health.

I believe antioxidants are your body's #1 way to neutralize free radicals and help you potentially slow down the signs of normal aging.*

Oxidation by free radicals can damage cells and organs -- and thus impact your aging process* -- something I’m sure you’d rather put the brakes on.

Antioxidants are also key nutrients in:

* Supporting your memory function*
* Promoting your heart health*
* Boosting your immune system*

Turmeric's antioxidants help protect your cells from free radical damage.*

The antioxidant content within turmeric comes from active compounds called curcuminoids.

These curcuminoids deliver antioxidants that may be:

* 5 to 8 times stronger than vitamin E -- and also stronger than vitamin C
* 3 times more powerful than grape seed or pine bark extract
* Strong enough to scavenge the hydroxyl radical -- considered by many to be the most reactive of all oxidants*

How Turmeric Enhances Your Outer Beauty*

Speaking of antioxidant nutrients and their potential to impact the aging process, some of the first aging signs you may see as you get older are changes to your skin.
Healthy Skin

Believe it or not, the organic ingredients found in turmeric can help promote your healthy skin.*

How, you ask?

Curcuminoids support important blood and liver functions, healthy joints, and your overall well-being,* which in turn helps promote radiant, supple skin.*

Turmeric has been considered to be ‘skin food' for thousands of years in India and other cultures.*

Turmeric helps:

* Cleanse your skin and maintain its elasticity*
* Provide nourishment to your skin*
* Balance the effects of skin flora*

So, turmeric can act as your one-two punch against normal aging with its skin promotion and antioxidant capabilities -- outer beauty plus inner purity.*
Your Triple-Action Cellular Booster and Adaptogen*

Another potential advantage from turmeric usage involves the smallest living things within you -- your cells.

Turmeric can assist your cells in three ways, by:

* Helping neutralize substances that can cause cellular stress*
* Maintaining your cells' integrity when threatened by occasional environmental stressors*
* Providing the antioxidants you need to help support your cells against excessive oxidation and free radicals*

Turmeric is also recognized as an adaptogen -- helping to support your body against stress and providing immune system support.*
How this Ancient Spice has Become
Embedded in India's Ayurvedic Practice

Turmeric, like other herbs and spices, is a principle herb in Ayurveda -- India's ancient holistic health system. Ayurveda means "knowledge of life" -- with herbs lying at the very heart of Ayurvedic practice.

Turmeric Ayurveda PracticeTurmeric has multiple uses within Ayurveda, including blood cleansing and maintaining healthy skin.*

In Ayurvedic terminology, turmeric includes the following:

* Verdana sthapana -- promotes your healthy nervous system and helps you with occasional discomfort*
* Sangrahani -- supports your absorption of vitamins and minerals*
* Anulomana -- helps you in purging out wastes and building healthy blood*
* Rakta stambhaka -- promotes the wellness of your circulatory system*

And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Ayurvedic turmeric uses.

What does this mean to you?

Simply, turmeric has been used in Indian culture for thousands of years for a multitude of health-promoting reasons.* An estimated 500 million Indians still use the spice today.
What's Your Best Sources for Turmeric?

So by now, you might be wondering about potential sources of turmeric.

Well, you may already know you can find it in the spice aisle of your local grocery store. But as mentioned earlier, I don't recommend using your local grocery store, due to the quality of their herbs and spices.

Even though there may be some good spices available there, it's very difficult to verify their purity and potency.

Also, the turmeric powder you buy in your store is a spice. It doesn't necessarily come from high-quality organic herbs -- and is not produced using certified organic processes, causing you to risk missing its healthful benefits.

What's more... with store-bought turmeric powder, you'll probably just use it once in awhile to cook with -- not on a daily basis to consistently take advantage of the benefits it offers.

So, what other options do you have?

I recommend searching for a high-quality, 100% organic-based turmeric supplement.

But there are some things you should watch for when choosing a turmeric supplement.
Avoid Unnecessary Fillers, Additives, and Excipients

When I did my own research on available turmeric supplements, I found a surprising array of choices.

Besides, curcumin and curcuminoid ingredients, I found products with questionable ingredients like fillers, additives, and excipients. An excipient is a substance added to the supplement as a processing or stability aid.

One ingredient, magnesium stearate (also know as stearic acid), is a potentially toxic metal additive from pill production.

Another ingredient I found in many turmeric supplements, Dibasic Calcium Phosphate (DCP), may even inhibit the absorption of essential minerals within your system.

There are others you may find as well, but the bottom line is... you don't want or need these ingredients in your turmeric supplement. Some pose potential health risks -- and all are unnecessary.
Make Sure Your Herbal Supplement Comes from a
Certified Organic Producer Committed to Quality Processes

The key to delivering an organic-based turmeric supplement rests in the manufacturer's commitment to quality and excellence.

Turmeric Powder

In fact, I believe that without these quality processes in place, it really doesn't matter what organic herbs are harvested. You simply won't end up with a top-notch consistent organic formula. In turn, you won't receive the maximum potential value of the herb.

So, it's important to highly scrutinize and research the manufacturer's credentials.

In fact, you may not be able to stop with the manufacturer alone. Keep in mind, the total organic process involves planting, cultivation, selective harvesting, and then producing and packaging the final formula.

Here's the type of certifications I recommend you look for:

* Hazards and Critical Control Points (HACCP) -- International food safety certification that World Health Organization (WHO) standards are met
* Safe Quality Food (SQF) -- HACCP-based food safety and risk management system covering the identification of food safety, quality risks, and the validation and monitoring of control measures
* Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) -- International certification verifies all required practices necessary for an effective food safety program are followed
* International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2000 -- International standard for quality, safety, ecology, economy, reliability, compatibility, inter-operability, efficiency, and effectiveness
* Orthodox Union (OU) Kosher -- Certifies compliance for Kosher observers and followers
* International organic certificationssuch as: USDA, EU, and NSOP (India)

Use This Checklist to Find Your Highest Quality Turmeric

To take advantage of all the great benefits turmeric has to offer you, I created a checklist on what you should look for in a turmeric supplement.

Whatever you do, don't settle for second best.

Here's my checklist to help you find the best turmeric source:

* Contains only 100% certified organic ingredients -- Turmeric extract with at least 95% curcuminoids
* Comes in supplement form -- Don't rely on your typically low quality and unpredictable local grocery store spice. Additionally when you heat the spice during cooking many of the beneficial properties are lost.
* Avoids fillers, additives, and excipients -- No need for questionable "other ingredients" in the formula
* Provides a vegetable capsule -- Avoid gelatin-based capsules whenever possible
* Is produced by a certified organic manufacturer with high-quality organic and safe production practices -- Don't settle for second best here!

13 Ways this Ancient Herb Can Help You
Spice Up Your Life (and Your Health*)

Let me summarize thirteen ways this 100% certified organic-based Turmeric can spice up your whole person:

1. Boosts your antioxidant protection against free radicals*
2. Helps promote your healthy skin*
3. Supports your overall eye health*

* Educating and certifying organic growers and farmers -- Organic farmers receive training and education in all aspects of sustainable organic farming methods. A 3rd party international agency certifies farmers as "certified organic."
* Respecting and honoring the organic farmers -- By honoring the well-being and dignity of local farmers, a win-win scenario continues to evolve for everyone involved.

Organic India is among the few herbal companies in India to receive the following certifications:

* SQF -- Safe Quality Food (certified by SGS India Pvt. Lmt.)
* HACCP -- Hazards and Critical Control Points (by SGS)

Multimedia Presentation on Wireless Health Hazards from ElectromagneticHealth.Org on Vimeo.

In the video above, ElectromagneticHealth.org founder Camilla Rees presents an overview of an emerging public health issue -- excessive exposures to microwave radiation from wireless technologies.

Illness linked to electromagnetic radiation exposure inclufiede many cancers, neurological conditions, ADD, sleep disorders, depression, autism, cognitive problems, cardiovascular irregularities, hormone disruption, immune system disorders, metabolism changes, stress, fertility impairment, increased blood brain barrier permeability, mineral disruption, DNA damage and much, much more.

Learn how to sensibly protect yourself in high EMF environments, and why it is important you join others in advocating for stricter safety standards for wireless technologies.

The Web site ElectromagneticHealth.org also offers ten free audio interviews with some of the world’s leading experts in the field of EMF.

Click the source link below to hear some of the fascinating information and insights they offer!

For even more information, you can also take a look at EMF.mercola.com for the latest news and updates.

Dr. Mercolas Comments:

The video above is a great, broad summary of what we now know about the dangers inherent with our wireless revolution. There’s no doubt in my mind that if our society keeps ignoring this issue, we will pay a very steep price in declining health over the coming generations.

However there are a large number of other excellent video interviews on their site, www.ElectroMagneticHealth.org, which is a tremendous resource of EMF knowledge. There is even one from my mentor Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt. If you were to attend a conference that had all these presentations, I am sure you would spend hundreds of dollars, but now you can access them all for free.

Personally, I believe this issue is so important, I’ve created an entire web site dedicated to EMF education and information. Feel free to bookmark EMF.mercola.com, and check back on occasion for the latest news and updates.

Unfortunately, while some countries are taking measures to reduce public radiation, the United States is not one of them. Instead, the US is heading in the exact opposite direction with the introduction of Wi-Max, short for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access.

As infatuating as this type of technology can be to technological geeks and business people alike (myself included), the health ramifications cannot be ignored. We are already seeing increasing numbers of people suffering the very real effects of electrohypersensitivity.

The problem has gotten bad enough that France, for example, has created “EMF refugee zones,” where those who are hypersensitive now live in trailers, doing everything they can to protect themselves in order to be able to function normally.

Do You Experience Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Symptoms?

The graph below, created by Prof. Magda Havas, PhD, illustrates the frequency of electromagnetic hypersensitivity symptoms based on your distance to a cell phone base station (cell phone tower). It is based on a Spanish study published in 2001 in the journal La Presse Medicale, which clearly showed that the closer you are to the base station, the greater your chances of exhibiting a number of health related symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, visual and auditory disturbances, and cardiovascular effects, just to name a few.

It’s worth noting that these symptoms are just for ONE type of exposure, at a distance. It does not include the effects of other technologies that are emitting radiofrequency radiation as well, such as cell phones, cordless home phones, and wi-fi networks in your office.

Now we’re even blasted with WiFi on airplanes. Last week I actually used WiFi in the sky to get some work done on a four hour trip to LA. Soon WiFi internet will be on EVERY aircraft.

When you add all sources of exposure together, the potential effects become quite staggering.

The Biological Effects of EMF

There is a significant amount of studies showing the biological effects of electromagnetic fields and radiofrequencies within the microwave range. However, the crux of the issue is that industry claims that since these technologies do not have a thermal (heating) effect on your body, they will not cause biological problems.

There are literally thousands of studies showing that this logic is incorrect. EMF’s DO cause biological harm, even without thermal effects, including:

The truth is that industry, and our regulating agencies, are simply choosing not to look at any of this research…

Scientists across the globe are starting to pay attention to this issue, and they’re seeing the problems. Professor Franz Adelkofer, coordinator of the REFLEX report, has stated:

“This is real evidence that hyperfrequency electromagnetic fields can have geno-toxic effects. And this damaged DNA is always the cause of cancer.

We’ve found these damaging effects on the genes at levels well below the safety limits. That’s why we think it’s urgent to base our safety limits on the biological effects, not the thermic ones.

They should be based on biology, not on physics.”

Two great sources of research into the biological effects of EMF’s and other types of radiation include the BioInitiative Report, which was published in August 2007 (available on www.bioinitiative.org), and the 2009 special EMF issue of the Journal of Pathophysiology.

I also recommend the book Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of the Wireless Revolution, written by Camilla Rees and Magda Havas, PhD.

The Real Reason Why US Government is So Slow to Protect You

Most people do not realize this, but the US government has significant conflicts of interest on this issue.

For example, the top 20 telecom companies have spent $2.3 billion in political lobbying over the past 10 years to influence government officials, both in the US and in other countries. The US also receives significant federal revenue from individual usage taxes, in addition to the revenue collected directly from the telecom industry.

Last but not least, companies bought spectrum rights with little money down in the late 1990s, with the agreement to pay these loans back with user fees over time. Essentially, the FCC is a mortgage holder for the mobile phone industry!

As is the case any time you’re dealing with conflicts of interest of this magnitude, it will take Herculean efforts to break through the walls of greed to protect human health. But it must be done, and it will require people like you and me to keep pushing for change.

Says Olle Johanson, PhD, from the Karolinska Institute in Sweden:

“It is evident that various biological alterations, including immune system modulation, are present in electrohypersensitive persons.

There must be an end to the pervasive nonchalance, indifference and lack of heartfelt respect for the plight of these persons. It is clear something serious has happened and is happening. Every aspect of electrohypersensitive people’s lives, including the ability to work productively in society, have healthy relations and find safe, permanent housing, is at stake.

The basics of life are becoming increasingly inaccessible to a growing percentage of the world’s population. I strongly advise all governments to take the issue of electromagnetic health hazards seriously and to take action while there is still time. There is too great a risk that the ever increasing RF-based communications technologies represent a real danger to humans.

Governments should act decisively to protect public health by changing the exposure standards to be biologically-based, communicating the results of the independent science on this topic and aggressively researching links with a multitude of associated medical conditions.”

Factors that Influence Your Susceptibility to EMF Damage

Researchers have found that there are a number of factors that influence the degree to which you may be affected by EMF’s and other types of radiowaves. For example, according to the research by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, your physical body, such as your body weight, body-mass index, bone density, and water and electrolyte levels can alter the conductivity and biological reactivity to EMFs.

Heavy metals in your brain also act as micro-antennas, concentrating and increasing reception of EMF radiation. Likewise, any kind of metal implants and/or amalgam tooth fillings will significantly increase reception of microwaves, and the mircrocurrents from cell phones and other ambient fields.

This is yet another major reason for having your mercury fillings removed by a trained biological dentist.

Your genes can also play a part, as certain genes regulate metal detoxifying enzymes. So depending on your genetic makeup, you may be more or less predisposed to electromagnetic hypersensitivity.

People who suffer from diseases that causes myelin loss, such as muscular sclerosis, Lyme disease, and other autoimmune diseases are also at greater risk of electro-sensitivity.

Unfortunately, EMFs have been found to cause microorganisms to release higher amounts of potent toxins, which can exacerbate infections and autoimmune diseases.

Your overall risk is also dependent on other sources of EMF, such as the synergistic effect from geopathic earth radiation, metallic objects and furnishings in your home or office, electronic appliances, and household wiring.

Mechanism of Action

According to Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy retired from the Imperial College of London, acute electrohypersensitivity symptoms and diseases stemming from excessive non-thermal radiation exposure could potentially be explained by the effects on the cell wall.

Because as your body absorbs radiation, currents are created that weaken your cells’ walls by removing calcium and other divalent ions.

This creates permeability, or “leakage” in your body, and this is known to happen even in non-thermal fields, and, interestingly, only in certain “amplitude windows.” Low frequencies can be worse than high frequencies, and pulsed waves are worse than sine waves.

One of the most noticeable effects of this permeability in your body is the effect it can have on your brain function. As explained in the video, programmed flow of calcium ions through your cell membranes is a prerequisite for release of neurotransmitters. “Unscheduled” leakage of calcium ions increases background calcium which makes membranes hypersensitive and more likely to transmit random signals.

The end result can be clouded mental activity. It can also activate random thoughts, which naturally makes it more difficult to concentrate.

Much of this effect is characteristic of ADHD…

Also, leakage of digestive enzymes from lysosomes can account for damage to DNA, and may offer yet another explanation for cancer rates and the rise in infertility. The resulting DNA fragmentation may also create genetic mutations that could appear in future generations.

Interestingly, and quite believably, the rise in microwave radiation and EMF exposure may be a significant contributing factor to the skyrocketing increase in autism, as electromagnetically induced membrane leakage leads to brain hyperactivity. A summary of a study conducted by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, on the EMF level in the bedrooms of pregnant women whose children were autistic, versus EMF levels of mothers who had healthy children, can be found in the "Media Story Leads" section of www.ElectromagneticHealth.org. Body voltage levels in that location were also measured in the study.

The results suggest an urgent need for further research in the autism-EMF area, especially given the official number of children with autism was recently announced to be 1 in 91, compared to 1 in 150 in 2002.

More research is also needed on the mechanisms of action in general. A summary of all currently known mechanisms of action is expected to be published in 2010.

For example, in addition to Dr. Goldsworthy's theories discussed above, other possible mechanisms of action leading to symptoms and diseases include: increased free radical production, and impact on serotonin and melatonin.

In Defending Itself, Your Body Wears Itself Out…

The good news is that your body can, to a degree, defend itself from these types of radiation damage. It does so by pumping surplus calcium out of your cells, and by activating certain enzymes that protect your DNA, and by making heat shock proteins to protect enzymes.

The bad news is that in doing so, your body becomes fatigued, and the more it has to defend itself, the worse your health will fare. Eventually, it can start interfering with your metabolism; impair your immune system; and lower your resistance to disease and cancer.

Last but not least, EMF exposures have a sensitizing effect, so you will become more and more sensitive over time.

How You Can Help Yourself

Fortunately, you are not completely helpless. There are strategies that can help reduce your exposure and protect your health against the constant onslaught of radiation.

First and foremost, you’ll want to reduce your exposure to as many sources as you can.

For my latest list of safety tips and guidelines on how to reduce your exposure, please see this previous article.

In addition to my recommendations, Camilla Rees mentions a few more in her video above, including:

Intestinal care – mainly by making sure you’re getting plenty of healthy probiotics. The Paracelsus Clinic in Switzerland discovered that symptoms of electrosensitivity can be reduced by providing gut barrier support. For more information, listen to the interview with Dr. Rau, medical director of the Paracelsus Clinic, available at this link.
Regular detoxification programs – Reducing your toxic burden has become far more important than it ever was before. Not only are you dealing with increasing amounts of toxic chemicals in your environment, your body is full of microorganisms that respond to EMFs by generating increased levels of their own toxins, according to a course for physicians on this subject, taught by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, MD.
Beware of mold – Mold, just like other microorganisms, can also react in high EMF environments. One study showed 600 times more neurotoxins generated from mold in a high EMF environment. According to Rees, there are also mold legal cases being reviewed, assessing if problems in buildings infested with mold may have actually been related to nearby antenna infrastructure.
Last but not least, please do help spread awareness about this ever increasing problem.

For more information, please see EMF.mercola.com for the latest news and updates.

It’s unfortunate, but the government is not likely to step up and do the right thing to protect your health, and the health of your children and grandchildren. We need you to get involved, at any level you can, to help increase the pressure on industry and industry regulators, to ensure a safer future for everyone, everywhere.

Listerine for Toenail fungus

Listerine therapy for toenail fungus: Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine Mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

TOENAIL FUNGUS:Listerine therapy for toenail fungus…. Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again. From this site that has a list of home remedies.

Vicks vaporub is also another home remedy. Wonder if it works.

I have been trying to cover up my toenail fungus with dark red nail polish for months now. So dark, I can’t even tell which toenail has fungus and I pretty much neglected that.

Yesterday I decided to go naked….

My toes lah.

Stripped off all the polish and boy is that fungus nasty.

At least now I can see them. Will put the medicine properly from now on…hope it heals fast so that I can go for my pedicures again and have lighter colours for my toes.

I will bloody try the listerine home remedy tonight and maybe the vicks one if I pass by Watsons or Guardian.

Worse comes to worse….

I’ll visit the doctor.

Whahaha, my last toenail tore off. I got so pissed, I decided to cut my toenails short and cut off the parts with the fungus(as much as I could). Now they are ugly, and I probably won’t be able to do my fortnightly pedicure anymore for quite awhile.

Ha so I didn get to try the home remedies. Next time if I have, I’ll surely try it again. Now my nails are so short, its much easier to put the fungal medication.

Alka Seltzer for UTI Cure

Cure urinary tract infections with Alka-Seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly-even though the product was never been advertised for this use.

Horse Radish plus Olive Oil for Achy Muscles

Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil for instant relief for aching muscles.

Horseradish

This perennial produces a thick aromatic root with medicinal properties, often served with roast beef. Early in spring, plant cuttings in a vertical position with the larger end upward. Cover them with 1 to 2 in. of soil. Thicker roots are more desirable because they yield a larger taproot in the fall. Adequate moisture results in optimum yields, but the plants will produce edible roots with minimal watering. If your soil is good, fertilizer is not needed. Excessively good growing conditions encourage horseradish to spread. To contain horseradish in a small garden you may want to plant the roots into a bottomless black plastic pot buried in the ground.

Most of horseradish’s root growth occurs in late fall, so delay harvesting until late September. At this time carefully dig around the plant. There will be many lateral roots attached to the taproot. The taproot can be stored in a cold room like potatoes and used anytime. The lateral roots are used for root-cuttings for next year's crop. Pull up most of the lateral roots to minimize the number of horseradish plants in your garden.

The greatest exponent of monounsaturated fat is olive oil, and it is a prime component of the Mediterranean Diet. Olive oil is a natural juice which preserves the taste, aroma, vitamins and properties of the olive fruit. Olive oil is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as it is - freshly pressed from the fruit.

The beneficial health effects of olive oil are due to both its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and its high content of antioxidative substances. Studies have shown that olive oil offers protection against heart disease by controlling LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels while raising HDL (the "good" cholesterol) levels. (1-3) No other naturally produced oil has as large an amount of monounsaturated as olive oil -mainly oleic acid.

Olive oil is very well tolerated by the stomach. In fact, olive oil's protective function has a beneficial effect on ulcers and gastritis. Olive oil activates the secretion of bile and pancreatic hormones much more naturally than prescribed drugs. Consequently, it lowers the incidence of gallstone formation.

Olive oil and heart disease

Studies have shown that people who consumed 25 milliliters (mL) - about 2 tablespoons - of virgin olive oil daily for 1 week showed less oxidation of LDL cholesterol and higher levels of antioxidant compounds, particularly phenols, in the blood.(4)

But while all types of olive oil are sources of monounsaturated fat, EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, from the first pressing of the olives, contains higher levels of antioxidants, particularly vitamin E and phenols, because it is less processed.

Olive oil is clearly one of the good oils, one of the healing fats. Most people do quite well with it since it does not upset the critical omega 6 to omega 3 ratio and most of the fatty acids in olive oil are actually an omega-9 oil which is monounsaturated.

Olive oil and colon cancer

Spanish researchers suggest that including olive oil in your diet may also offer benefits in terms of colon cancer prevention (5). Their study results showed that rats fed diet supplemented with olive oil had a lower risk of colon cancer than those fed safflower oil-supplemented diets. In fact, the rats that received olive oil had colon cancer rates almost as low as those fed fish oil, which several studies have already linked to a reduction in colon cancer risk.

Types of olive oil

Generally, olive oil is extracted by pressing or crushing olives. Olive oil comes in different varieties, depending on the amount of processing involved. Varieties include:

Extra virgin - considered the best, least processed, comprising the oil from the first pressing of the olives.
Virgin - from the second pressing.
Pure - undergoes some processing, such as filtering and refining.
Extra light - undergoes considerable processing and only retains a very mild olive flavour.
When buying olive oil you will want to obtain a high quality EXTRA VIRGIN oil. The oil that comes from the first "pressing" of the olive, is extracted without using heat (a cold press) or chemicals, and has no "off" flavors is awarded "extra virgin" status. The less the olive oil is handled, the closer to its natural state, the better the oil. If the olive oil meets all the criteria, it can be designated as "extra virgin".

What is pure and light olive oil? "Pure" olive oil is made by adding a little extra virgin olive oil to refined olive oil. It is a lesser grade oil that is also labeled as just "olive oil" in the U.S.

"Light" olive oil is a marketing concept and not a classification of olive oil grades. It is completely unregulated by any certification organizations and therefore has no real precedent to what its content should be. Sometimes, the olive oil is cut with other vegetable oils.

How to care for your olive oil

Resist the temptation to place your beautiful bottle of olive oil on the windowsill. Light and heat are the #1 enemy of oil. Keep olive oil in a cool and dark place, tightly sealed. Oxygen promotes rancidity. Olive oil is like other oils and can easily go rancid when exposed to air, light or high temperatures.

You can of course buy extra virgin olive oil in any grocery store. A good source on the internet for extra virgin olive oil is here.

Olive oil versus canola oil

Do not fall into the hype which is put out by traditional medicine regarding the promotion of canola oil (rapeseed) as superior due to its concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids. Olive oil is far superior and has been around for thousands of years. Canola oil is a relatively recent development and the original crops were unfit for human consumption due to their high content of a dangerous fatty acid called euric acid.

If the taste of olive oil is a problem, or if you are frying or sautéing food, then you should consider coconut oil. Many nutritionally misinformed people would consider this unwise due to coconut oil's nearly exclusive content of saturated fat. However, this is just not the case. Because it has mostly saturated fat, it is much less dangerous to heat. The heat will not tend to cause the oil to transition into dangerous trans fatty acids.

Colgate Toothpaste - relieves burns

Did you know that Colgate Toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns?

Although most Colgate toothpaste brands use sodium fluoride, the Colgate Cavity Protection variety instead contains Sodium monofluorophosphate as the active ingredient.

Colgate Total contains the anti-microbial ingredient triclosan, which reduces the number of bacteria that cause gingivitis, cavities and halitosis.

Duraphat is a professional strength paste intended for the treatment and prevention of dental caries. The toothpaste is ideal for the management of high-risk patients such as those with rampant, early, existing or recurrent coronal or root caries. Since it is used in place of regular toothpaste, it is an easy treatment regime for patients to comply with. The prime constituent is sodium hydroxide and it is sometimes prescribed as part of a program of fluoride therapy. It is available as a prescription-only product

A whitening toothpaste that is "Clinically-proven to whiten in 14 days". Its whitening ingredient is hydrogen peroxide, which gradually bleaches the teeth. It utilizes two separate chambers that contain a whitening agent and a cleaning gel.

An advertising campaign for Colgate toothpaste from the 1940s used the slogan "It cleans your breath while it cleans your teeth".[citation needed] From the 1960s onwards, the slogan was "The Colgate ring of confidence".[citation needed] Colgate has a toothpaste and toothbrush mascot for children's entertainment, "Doctor Rabbit", which has also been used in three tapes that teach about dental health and advertise Colgate toothpaste[citation needed] Remixed versions of these tapes have appeared on the Internet and they are often re-edited for comedic effect.
In the late 1950's and early 1960's, Colgate stressed the fact their "Dental Cream" contained Gardol, a formula that helped protect teeth from cavities and tooth decay. "Gardol" was actually their trademark for the ingredient Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate (and identified as such on the package and in their advertising), which today is an ingredient in Arm & Hammer's "Advance White" toothpaste, minus the "Gardol" identification.

In many Latin American countries, Colgate toothpaste is banned from sale because the Spanish word Colgate literally translates to Hang yourself in English.

Gatorade as Pain Relievers

Did you know that drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately- without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers?

What is Gatorade?

Gatorade®, or Gatorade® G as the product was re-branded as in early 2009, is a popular sports drink invented in 1965 by a team of researchers at the University of Florida. The drink is named in honor of the University's Florida Gators athletic teams. It was developed by university researchers after the assistant coach asked the research team to help figure out a way to help athletes cope with the hot weather. When research revealed that the athletes were losing electrolytes and important fluids as well as carbohydrates through sweating, Gatorade® was formulated to replace the lost nutrients.

Carbohydrates are biomolecules that transport and store energy in the body. Electroyltes are salts and minerals needed to be replenished in the body. Interestingly, the Florida Gators started improving in their wins overall after the teams began drinking the Gatorade® at games. Other university sports teams started ordering Gatorade® and by 1983, the product was the National Football League's (NFL) official sports drink. It later became the official drink of many professional sports groups.

In 1998, the Gatorade® Sports Science Institute was formed in Barrington, Illinois to continue research in the area of electrolyte and carbohydrate loss in athletes. The Gatorade® In-Car Drinking System was developed in 2001 to successfully help racecar drivers stay properly hydrated during races in high temperatures. Also in 2001, the Gatorade® Performance Series drink, energy bar and shake were launched. In 2005, Gatorade® Endurance products were created to especially address the electrolyte needs of endurance athletes such as runners.

The Gatorade® Endurance Formula sports drink has a high sodium level as needed by endurance athletes, but most other varieties of Gatorade® are low in sodium. Sodium in one type of electrolyte lost through sweat -- potassium, magnesium and calcium are others. Gatorade®, or Gatorade® G, contains varying amount of electrolytes depending on the particular drink line. Many of the sports drinks contain vitamins and most have corn syrup as a carbohydrate. Gatorade&re; flavors are natural and include the original, lemon lime, as well as orange, Fruit Punch and grape varieties.

One Gatorade® product line, Propel Fit, is artificially sweetened. It was first launched in 2000 and calcium was added to the line in 2006. The crisp and light Rain flavor of Gatorade® was brought out in 2006 with the name later changed to No Excuses in 2009. Gatorade® 2, or G2, a successful low calorie version of Gatorade®, was introduced in 2007 in blended flavors such as Blueberry-Pomegranate and Strawberry-Kiwi.

Left Over Cut Onions are Poisonous

A bit of information for your consumption. ..
Don't keep sliced onions for another day...
LEFT OVER ONIONS IS POISONOUS

I have used an onion which has been left in the fridge, and sometimes I don't use a whole one at one time, so save the other half for later. Now with this info, I have changed my mind....will buy smaller onions in the future.

I had the wonderful privilege of touring Mullins Food Products, Makers of mayonnaise. Mullins is huge, and is owned by 11 brothers and sisters in the Mullins family. My friend, Jeanne, is the CEO.

Questions about food poisoning came up, and I wanted to share what I learned from a chemist.

The guy who gave us our tour is named Ed. He's one of the brothers. Ed is a chemistry expert and is involved in developing most of the sauce formula. He's even developed sauce formula for McDonald's.

Keep in mind that Ed is a food chemistrywhiz. During the tour, someone asked if we really needed to worry about mayonnaise. People are always worried that mayonnaise will spoil. Ed's answer will surprise you. Ed said that all commercially- made Mayo is completely safe.

"It doesn't even have to be refrigerated. No harm in refrigerating it, but it's not really necessary.."
He explained that the pH in mayonnaise is set at a point that bacteria could not survive in that environment. He then talked about the quaint essential picnic, with the bowl of potato salad sitting on the table and how everyone blames the mayonnaise when someone gets sick.

Ed says that when food poisoning is reported, the first thing the officials look for is when the 'victim' last ate ONIONS and where those onions came from (in the potato salad?). Ed says it's not the mayonnaise (as long as it's not homemade Mayo) that spoils in the outdoors. It's probably the onions, and if not the onions, it's the POTATOES.

He explained, onions are a huge magnet for bacteria, especially uncooked onions. You should never plan to keep a portion of a sliced onion. He says it's not even safe if you put it in a zip-lock bag and put it in your refrigerator.

It's already contaminated enough just by being cut open and out for a bit, that it can be a danger to you (and doubly watch out for those onions you put in your hotdogs at the baseball park!)

Ed says if you take the leftover onion and cook it like crazy
you'll probably be okay, but if you slice that leftover onion and put on your sandwich, you're asking for trouble. Both the onions and the moist potato in a potato salad, will attract and grow bacteria faster than any commercial mayonnaise will even begin to break down.

So, how's that for news? Take it for what you will. I (the author) am going to be very careful about my onions from now on.
For some reason, I see a lot of credibility coming from a chemist and a company that produces millions of pounds of mayonnaise every year..'

Also, dogs should never eat onions. Their stomachs cannot metabolize onions .Please remember it is dangerous to cut onions and try to use it to cook the next day, it becomes highly poisonous for even a single night and creates Toxic bacteria which may cause Adverse Stomach infectionsbecause of excess Bile secretions and even Food poisoning.

Facts on honey and cinnamon:

It is found that mixture of Honey and Cinnamon cures most of the diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world.

Ayurvedic as well as Yunani medicine have been using honey as a vital medicine for centuries.

Scientists of today also accept honey as a "Ram Ban" (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without any side effects for any kind of diseases.

Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, if taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm diabetic patients.

Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada, on its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by Honey and Cinnamon as researched by western scientists.

HEART DISEASES: Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, chappati, or other bread, instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack.

Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heartbeat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as age the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalizes the arteries and veins.

INSECT BITES: Take one part honey to two parts of lukewarm water and add a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder, make a paste and massage it on the itching part of the body slowly. It is noticed that the pain recedes within a minute or two.

ARTHRITIS: Arthritis patients may take daily, morning and night, one cup of hot water with two spoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. If taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured.

In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week out of the 200 people so treated practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain and within a month, mostly all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis started walking without pain.

HAIR LOSS: Those suffering from hair loss or baldness, may apply a paste of hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon of cinnamon powder before bath and keep it for approx. 15 min. and then wash the hair. It was found to be effective even if kept on for 5 minutes.

BLADDER INFECTIONS: Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

TOOTHACHE: Make a paste of one teaspoon of cinnamon powder and five teaspoons of honey and apply on the aching tooth. This may be applied 3 times a day till the tooth stops aching.

CHOLESTEROL: Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water, given to a cholesterol patient, was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10% within 2 hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, if taken 3 times a day, any Chronic cholesterol is cured. As per information received in the said journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

COLDS: Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for 3 days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold and clear the sinuses.

INFERTILITY: Yunani and Ayurvedic Medicine have been using honey for thousands of years to strengthen the semen of men. If impotent men regularly take two tablespoon of honey before going to sleep, their problem will be solved.

In China, Japan and Far-East countries, women, who do not conceive and need to strengthen the uterus, have been taking cinnamon powder for centuries. Women who cannot conceive may take a pinch of cinnamon powder in half teaspoon of honey and apply it on the gums frequently throughout the day, so that it slowly mixes with the saliva and enters the body.

A couple in Maryland, USA, had no children for 14 years and had lost hope of having a child of their own. When told about this process, husband and wife started taking honey and cinnamon as stated above; the wife conceived after a few months and had twins at full term.

UPSET STOMACH: Honey taken with cinnamon powder cures stomachache and also clears stomach ulcers from the root.

GAS: According to the studies done in India & Japan, it is revealed that if honey is taken with cinnamon powder the stomach is relieved of gas.

IMMUNE SYSTEM: Daily use of honey and cinnamon powder strengthens the immune system and protects the body from bacteria and viral attacks. ONE WOMAN'S STORY ON SOYA...

From: Zita Haygood

ONE WOMAN'S STORY ON SOYA... All Males - PLEASE pass this info to ALL your female friends... It may save their lives!. Something to take note of. This is my true story, nothing altered. These are facts, as they relate to my experience, my opinions based on what I have read and felt. I am relating them to warn other young health-conscious women who are unwittingly harming themselves.

In 1989, I graduated from high school in Texas and couldn't wait to hit the big college city. One of the changes I wanted to make was to eat healthier.

Once I moved to health-conscious Austin , Texas , I began to fortify my body with the best and healthiest foods I could find.

Tofu was the main ingredient in every healthy dish and I bought soya milk almost every day used it for everything from cereal to smoothies or just to drink for a quick snack. I bought soya muffins, miso soup with tofu, soybeans, soybean, sprouts, etc. All the literature in all the health and fitness magazines said that soya protected you against everything from heart disease to breast cancer. It was the magical isoflavones, the estrogen-like hormones that all worked to help you stay young and healthy. I looked great - I was working out all the time, but my menstrual cycle was off. At 20, I started taking birth control pills to regulate my menstrual cycle.

In addition to this I began to suffer from painful periods. I began to get puffy, it was as though I was losing my muscle tone. I began to suffer from depression and getting hot flashes. I mistook all this for PMS since my periods were irregular. By the time I was 25, my periods were so bad, I couldn't walk. The birth control pills never made them regular or less painful so I decided to stop taking them.

I went on like this for another two years until I realized my pain wasn't normal. At 27, my gynecologist found two cysts in my uterus. Both were the size of tennis balls. I went through surgery to have them removed and thank God they were benign. The gynecologist told me to go back on birth control pills. I didn't. In 1998, he discovered a lump in my breast. Again, I went through surgery and again it was benign.

In November 2000 my glands swelled up and my gums became inflamed. Thinking I had a tooth infection I went to the dentist who told me that teeth were not the problem.

After a dose of antibiotics the swelling still did not go down. At this point I could feel a tiny nodule on the right side of my neck. I told my mother I had thyroid trouble. She thought I was being silly. No one in the family suffered from thyroid trouble. Going on a hunch I saw a specialist who diagnosed me with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. After a series of tests he told me it was cancer. My fiance and I sat stunned. We were not prepared and I was so scared. We scheduled surgery right away.

The specialist told us that it would only be after the operation that a pathologist would be able to tell us for sure if it was cancer. They found a tumor at my right lobe composed of irregular cells and another smaller tumor growing on the left, so the entire thyroid was removed. They told me that after undergoing radioactive iodine I would be safe and assured me that I could live a long life.

After treatment I began to search for the cause of all these problems. I never once thought it could be all the soya I had consumed for nearly ten years. After all, soya is healthy. I came upon a web page that linked thyroid problems to soya intake and the conspiracy of soya marketed as a by-product of the vegetable oil industry. This was insane, after all, the health and fitness magazines had said nothing about soya being harmful.

I visited a herbalist who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 1985. She informed me that soya was the culprit. She had a hysterectomy due to cysts and other uterine problems. A few months later another acquaintance who had consumed soya came down with thyroid cancer.

A girl in England I met through the Internet in a thyroid cancer forum had just undergone surgery and she was only 19. What was going on?

Breast cancer is linked to estrogen. What mimics estrogen in the female body, SOYA! But I never suspected soya because until now I never once found a single article that stated soya could be dangerous.

Women who took soya prior to thyroid problems will continue to take it after if they are not aware of what soya actually does, what it contains and how it reacts in the female body. I think this is the reason that women with thyroid cancer often develop breast cancer later. My co-worker is big into soya and I see her losing hair and gaining weight despite a walking workout during her break and after work, and apples and oranges for lunch. She just had cysts removed from her uterus too. I warned her to stay off soya. I referred her to websites but until it is on the evening news on all four networks, women will suffer. Since the thyroidectomy, I do not touch soya, haven't for two years.

Dear readers,

Please use my story in any way you can. There are so many young girls who are consuming soya because they think they are taking care of themselves, and women taking soya because they want to be healthy. It is so unfair that the information about the dangers of soya isn't more widely circulated. It is sad.

Celtic Woman - the Voice...GOOD MUSIC can heal...

Here's a very unusual entry to this blogsite...

You're probably asking the question what on earth am I thinking - putting this beautiful music video in this theme site about Unorthodox Medicine.

I was searching for Celtic violin music and I stumbled into this video. I watched, I listened, and I listened.... and I listened over and over and over again.

I was barely sleeping the whole week beating my own self imposed deadlines... I was even dosing off while at work today the whole day... then suddenly... I heard this Voice...

Immediately... my whole system was normalized... I suddenly felt never better.

My blood circulated well, my energy seemed to have risen... the beautiful combination of melodies, rhtyhms and chord at play triggers the resonant frequencies in my body and has simulated creative juices to flow - instantly making me feel and think better.

In this light, I have concluded that this music is an unorthodox medicine.

Please enjoy it... I am pleased to share it with you.

5 Green Mango Leaves

I find this email from one of my yahoo groups worth sharing.

Please go through it and benefit form it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your green mango peel, Tokayong Kit, worked on my mom, 92-1/2 years old.

Maraming, maraming salamat kaibigan.

After an hour taking a cup of freshly boiled mango leaves [your prescribed substitute for peels] my mom was feeling well already, and she experienced an improve appetite the whole day. During her morning nap, she was sleeping without any warm clothing nor was she wrapped in a blanket. She had one drink in the morning and one later in the evening.

The morning she woke up, she complained that she felt very cold the whole evening and still was feeling cold. I thought she might have the beginning symptoms of the flu. Right then I remembered your prescription just sent a day ago. So I went up to my small 2nd floor garden to the row of young 3 year old mango seedlings, four of them, and judiciously choose the one I thought whose leaves smelled carabao mango. I picked 5 leaves, wash them, and cut them into five pieces each, put them in a two cup pot and boil for 5 minutes with a small piece of crushed loy-a [1/4 of a thumb-sized ginger].

Last night I went to the night market and bought 2 kilos of green Carabao mangoes, and peeled one, about 2 inch diameter4 inches, and boiled it in the same 2-cup pot with the same amount of ginger.

It wasn't until this noon, after a day of now green mango drink, that my mom felt the need to drink again a cup of the concoction. She seemed to be doing fine with it.

My wife, Paz, and I took a cupful last night and enjoyed it. Today I had one drink after lunch and slept practically the whole afternoon, a record of 4-1/2 hours, many hours over my usual 30 mins. I must have been tired or it was the juice working thru my system.

However, there may be a drawback - my mom has not felt the urge to go for almost three days now. It may just be a coincidence, starting the day she started drinking the concoction.

I just talk to her and she said she will take her medicine to make her pooh-pooh. She advance the theory that the concoction may have enough pectin to make her bowels act that way.

Other than that drawback which may turn out to be a coincidence, the concoction appears to have a good effect upon us. But we need to have many more days to be able to make some kind of definitive conclusion. We understand that in the world of healing, there are times that a medicine good for one may not have any appreciable effect on another. Let's see how the next days would be like.

BTW, what is this Maitong of yours?

I have two brother doctors in the USA who are interested in local medicine.

The Other Uses of Vinegar

Now that you know ketchup can be used for shining copper and repairing hair, or that vodka can be used to repel insects and freshen laundry, you may have been wondering what tasks you can get done for cheap with other household items.

Since May is National Vinegar Month (did you forget?), we thought we'd take a closer look at this inexpensive, versatile good.

According to the Vinegar Institute, the useful stuff was probably discovered by accident (most wine drinkers know what happens when you leave a bottle sitting around too long). In fact the word vinegar comes from a French translation for "sour wine."

Over the centuries vinegar has been produced from many stocks, including molasses, dates, sorghum, fruits, coconut, honey, beer, maple syrup, potatoes, beets, grains, and more. But the principle is the same: You get acetic acid (a.k.a. vinegar) after first fermenting natural sugars to alcohol, and then fermenting again.

As Michael de Jong, The Daily Green's Zen Cleaner and author of the Clean series of books, points out, vinegar has been pressed into service for many uses over the centuries. It has been prized as a foodstuff, condiment, preservative, and natural remedy.

What's so great about vinegar? Besides being effective, vinegar is cheap and widely available. It is nontoxic and lasts for a very long time without losing strength. It does not pollute land, air, or water, and it doesn't combust. It's much safer to have under your sink than bleach, ammonia, or other toxic cleaning products. Many folks also swear by the benefits of apple cider vinegar.

In the spirit of green cleaning, green thrift, and green creativity, we put together this list of alternative uses for vinegar. Add your own in the comments!

Cure hiccups
Some have said they were able to cure pesky hiccups instantly by swallowing a teaspoon of vinegar. Most folks use white vinegar, but people have also reported success with apple cider, balsamic, and rice varieties. So you have a few options as far as taste and aroma. Hey, if the Roman legions drank it, it must be good for you, right?

Fight cramps
If you often get foot or leg cramps in the middle of the night, you may want to try boosting your potassium levels. There are a number of great superfoods rich in potassium (way beyond bananas). Some folks have also suggested trying this remedy: Mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of honey, and a cup of hot water. Then drink before bed. Yummy!

Break bad bonds
Having trouble getting that annoying sticky label residue off a product? Or accidentally glue something together? Vinegar can be used as a solvent to dissolve many common adhesives. Vinegar is also good at cutting grease.

Deter cats
We love cats (even LOLcats!). But sometimes you don't want them doing their business in the kids' sandbox or in your flower bed. According to HomeEnvy, a simple solution is to pour vinegar around the edges of the area you want to protect every few months.

Wash produce
According to the green team at Ideal Bite, vinegar can help remove bacteria and pesticide residues from fruits and veggies. Mix three parts water to one part white vinegar, and dispense in a spray bottle. Then rinse with water. The site claims this wash kills 98% of bacteria on produce.

Clean windows
Instead of spending money on window cleaning chemicals -- especially ones that include toxic or potentially toxic chemicals -- make your own! Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with a gallon of water, and dispense into a used spray bottle. Squirt on, then scrub with newspaper, not paper towels, which cause streaking.

Get spring-fresh laundry
Got grass stains? No problemo, says Michael de Jong. Make a mixture of one-third cup white vinegar and two-thirds cup water. Apply the solution to the stain and blot with a clean cloth. Repeat this process until you've removed as much green as possible, and then launder as usual.

When your big washing day comes around, toss in a capful of white vinegar. Your colors will come out bolder and your whites whiter. If you've recently had an encounter with a skunk, it will take more than a capful.

After washing, get a sharper crease in pants by dipping the cloth in a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water. Then wring out the cloth and press the creases. Now you look like Dilbert!

Clean carpets
According to this The Daily Green community member: "Spots in carpets often remove with a simple dilution of one part vinegar, one-sixteenth part lemon juice, and eight parts distilled water."

Thanks for the tip!
